Genome Editing: State of the Art and Application to Animal Husbandry

The creation and development of genome editing (GE) technologies open new opportunities in the genetic engineering of domestic mammals and poultry. In the present review, we have characterized the GE-systems based on ZFN, TALEN, and CRISPR/Cas9 and the aims of their improvement in relation to farm animals. We described the application fields of the GE-technologies in animal husbandry and poultry farming and discussed the objectives and prospects of their further development.
